In Lafayette, three parades rolled through town. Our David D’Aquin was in the middle of the action and caught up with a Connecticut native who’s celebrating Mardi Gras for the first time.
You know its Mardi Gras time in Acadiana when King Gabriel rolls through town. That and the music. Connecticut native Mandy Thompson is doing Mardi Gras Cajun style for the very first time. Of course, folks in Acadiana were more than happy to show off their moves and their bead catching techniques. But for Thompson, it’s all about the experience.
Thousands of people from all over lined the streets of Lafayette. We set up along Johnston Street and caught all of the action first hand. Thompson said, “I love it. It’s a great culture experience. We hear about it in Connecticut. We hear all the myths about you, you get the beads. It’s just so much different. It’s so much fun once you’re here.”
There was fun to spare in Lafayette with plenty of beads, food, and some pretty killer dance moves.
