Lafayette, LA (NBC33) — It's time to express your true colors this weekend in Lafayette.
The first annual Acadiana Pride Festival is underway in South Louisiana.
Family is the focus of the festival.
It's not just for the LGBT community, either. Organizers invite everyone to come together and enjoy great music, food and simply to accept others for who they are.
Festival president Louis Toliver says Lafayette had to overcome cultural barriers to be one of the first small towns in the south to host such an event.
"I think that Lafayette is setting the grounds for a fresher idea of what the south should be, and I think that we are pushing real people for the first time in the south," said Toliver.
The festival runs through Sunday.
The majority of the festivities will be held at Parc International.
