The population in New Roads sky-rocketed from 4,000 to 90,000 Tuesday afternoon. The traditional Mardi Gras Day Parade brought people from all over.
It was an amazing sight to see. The streets were so packed you would have thought you were in downtown New Orleans. Two parades rolled through New Orleans. First up, the Community Center Carnival Parade. It’s Louisiana’s oldest carnival parade outside of the Crescent City. The second was the New Roads Lions Club Parade. It was the state’s first parade established as a charitable fundraiser. On the three-mile route, there were dancers, bands, and nearly 50 floats.
While in New Roads, we met several people from other countries. One man came from Australia and said his goal was to collect a million beads and bring them back to his friends in Adelaide.
