Gonzales (NBC33) — A Gonzales lingerie shop is causing a stir. Kiss My Lingerie lets some customers pay for their purchases with food stamps.
The business, located on South Burnside, sells adult clothing and accessories, and customers can pay for items with their EBT debit cards.
And apparently it's legal!
About $20,000 people in Louisiana get a cash allowance that helps pay for food, but some people are using taxpayer dollars to buy other things.
"I think it's kind of funny. I really don't think that you should be able to spend money off an EBT card in a lingerie store,” said Leonard Daniels, a Gonzales resident. “Pretty sure, if you're getting it for a purpose, that's not the purpose you're getting it for."
Even though the Department of Children and Family Services runs the food stamp program, all the money comes from the federal government.
Some states have added special rules about where the cash benefits can be spent, but Louisiana has not.
