BATON ROUGE, La (WVLA) -- Last weekend, 17 year old Darius Augustus was walking along the levee downtown with friends when he was caught in the crossfire of a shooting. Augustus was hit in the chest by a stray bullet, and the hit proved to be fatal. The teen died shortly thereafter. Tonight family and friends gathered in the same spot where Darius lay wounded, in remembrance and respect for their slain loved one.
The vigil was crowded with a community banded together in support of Darius and his family. City officials were also on hand to lend words of encouragement to the slain teen's family. There was prayer, there were tears, there were pleas to stop the killing. One of Darius's youngest family members asked where he was and if he was coming to the gathering being held in his honor.
