Ascension Parish (NBC33) — Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez announced Wednesday another parish road has been barricaded in the northern part of the parish due to backwater flooding near the Amite River and Bayou Manchac.
Assistant Department of Public Works Director Johnny Richardson said crews have added Broussard Road to the list of barricaded roads. Barricades remain at Airport Drive, Kay Drive, Idle Hour Road, Summerfield South Road and Lake Street.
Richardson said crews were dispatched to the Broussard Road area this morning to investigate whether a culvert was blocked and causing water to rise in that area.
“Our crews didn’t find evidence of a blocked culvert,” Richardson said. “The water level is coming up on Bayou Manchac probably from the rainfall the area experienced last night making its way down the Amite River.”
Richardson also said crews continue to monitor roads along Bayou Manchac and the Amite River.
