BATON ROUGE, La (WVLA) Crime reporter Dorthy Dix made her mark during the years she worked as a columnist for the Times Picayune in New Orleans. Starting in 1890, Dix eventually became known for her investigation of the macabre murders.
Tonight the Foundation for Historical Louisiana will sponsor a Heritage Lecture related to Dix and her legendary journalism career.
Tonight Christian Vella will share her insights on Dix’s career in the lecture “Dorthy Dix: The World Brougth Her Its Secrets.” Vella, who is also a noted writer and researcher from the New Orleans area, was recently honored by the FHL with its 2010 Preservation Award for her historical publications.
The Heritage Lecture will be held at the Old Governor’s Mansion and is free to FHL members, $10 for guests. Refreshments from Calandro’s Fine Cellars will begin at 6 p.m.
