BATON ROUGE (NBC33) — Construction on the Creative Bloc begins Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014 on the corner of North Eighth Street and Main Street in downtown Baton Rouge.
The Creative Bloc, owned by Jackson Group Investments since January 2013, is 11,500 square feet of collaborative workspace for visual media and creative professionals to lease hourly, monthly, or yearly.
The new building will consolidate three historic buildings from the 1930’s and 50’s.
JGI brought on Fitch Development and Tipton Architects to design the new facilities with a fusion of historic and contemporary elements.
“The rehabilitation of these three historic buildings along with the recent construction of the Hampton Inn and the on-going construction of the IBM buildings, will revitalize Main Street again as a central corridor in downtown Baton Rouge,” said Derek Fitch, the developer.
Ken Tipton, principal at Tipton Architects, said: “Since the structures have been approved for state and federal historic preservation tax credits our goal has been to retain the historic character of the buildings while embedding within the required modern technological amenities.”
Established, creative businesses and entrepreneurs specializing in video, film, photography, graphic arts, and app development can now pre-lease space in the new building.
According to a Creative Bloc statement, on-site resources will include a fully equipped video and sound production studio, post-production suites, media server and work and office spaces.
