A Tennessee family watched their home burn to the ground last week when the city's fire department refused to respond.
Gene Cranick said he begged the city of South Fulton to send firefighters to put out the fire.
Cranick lives in the county and chose not to pay the yearly $75 for city fire protection, so the city fire department did not respond.
However, firefighters did show up when the flames spread to a neighbor's property who had paid the fee.
The city's mayor said county resident cannot receive city fire protection unless they pay they for it.
