LAKE CHARLES, LA (NBC33) — Lake Charles police arrested a 33-year-old Baton Rouge man, Kirkland Montrell Pelichet, for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
On Tuesday, Feb. 4, around 10:50 p.m., officers stopped Pelichet on Interstate 10 eastbound for “defective equipment.”
Pelichet, identified by his driver’s license, told police that he was driving from Houston to Baton Rouge.
According to a police report, the officer conducting the stop asked for permission to search the vehicle after noticing that Pelichet was acting suspiciously.
Searching the vehicle, the officer found a blue plastic tote in the truck bed. Inside the tote were seven bundles of marijuana totaling 36.5 pounds with an estimated street value of $40,000.
Pelichet was booked into the Calcasieu correctional center.
