BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — The St. George incorporation continues to gain support from area residents.
They recently held a fundraiser, which raised nearly $20K for the proposed new city.
Right now they are still collecting signatures for their petition. At last check, they were more than halfway to their goal.
The city of St. George is something that Mayor Holden, among others, has publicly spoken against.
However, the incorporation says it’s ultimately up to the people.
"Everything is moving in the right direction,” said Lionel Rainey with the incorporation effort. “I do believe this will be on a ballot the November ballot of this year if the citizen don’t want it to happen and pass that’s okay we just think the people of this area have the right to be able to voice their opinion to determine their destiny."
They will soon start being more aggressive and collect signatures a few days a week- until they get enough to land a spot on the ballot.
