BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — The Baton Rouge Fire Department was called to a two alarm apartment fire around 1:30 Wednesday at Turner Plaza in the 4500 block of North Street .
Fire officials say the fire probably started in the bedroom by the heater but its still under investigation.
The apartment complex is one of the East Baton Rouge Council on Aging Senior Centers.
Several residents have been evacuated. We do not have reports of injuries at this time. One resident was transported to the hospital.
All residents that were displaced were sent to the local community center while housing was arranged.
The American Red Cross has been on scene since early Wednesday afternoon to help residents affected by the blaze. The team of volunteers, with more en route, will continue working with the residents who lived at the complex.
The East Baton Rouge Council on Aging will be collecting new and gently used household items, personal care items and clothing for the 40 displaced residents, which included Seniors.
Donated Items may be dropped off starting Thursday, January 30, 2014 at 8:00 a.m. at the EBR Council on Aging’s main location (5790 Florida Blvd.)
