BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — If you're stuck inside because of the cold weather and can't figure out what to do, you could use the extra time to file your taxes.
The IRS will start accepting electronically filed tax returns this Friday.
Tax season opens a little later this year because of the government shutdown in October, but that won't affect the April 15th deadline. That's when taxes are due if you don't' file an extension.
The IRS says you can get a head start on the tax-filing season through its 'Free File' service. To learn more, visit freefile.irs.gov .
