BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Louisiana natives are known for having a good time. Now Louisiana is also known for two women who are now behind one of the largest franchises in the nation that involves two things, art and wine.
"It’s all about them coming and laughing and having a good time."
It's called Painting with a Twist . It’s the largest franchise in the nation that involves painting, partying and of course a little bit of boozing.
“People just want to have a goodtime and this town is known how to have a goodtime,” noted co-owner Renee Maloney.
New Orleans natives, Renee and Cathy own the franchise. It was an idea that flourished when all others in their community had almost given up.
“Then the storm hit,” said Maloney. “Katarina hit and we knew our community needed some help. They needed money, they needed hope and they needed inspiration.”
And now a few years later, what was just a small studio and idea is now being enjoyed nationwide.
“It’s been wonderful watching people across the country live the dream and open a studio," said Deano.
Now they have over 100 franchise locations across the US and are planning to grow internationally.
“We’re growing fast for a franchise system but were growing at just the right pace."
So two friends, who coincidentally don't have that much artistic skill are growing one small idea that was merely developed to help the state of Louisiana bounce back, which indeed it has.
“I can’t even paint. I can’t even paint a stick figure,” noted Maloney.
Cathy and Renee say its also a great bonding tool, often utilized by large groups.
