BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — The East Baton Rouge Parish Main Library announced that it opened at noon on Wednesday and will resume it’s regular business hours on Thursday, Jan. 16.
In order to minimize the disruption in customer service, the Main Library is opening even though construction is still ongoing.
The new building still lacks a parking lot, some furniture pieces, new printers and copiers.
Books and audio/visual materials are shelved and in place for patron use. Free WiFi is available as well as some public computers.
The library will continue progress on a weekly basis until the site is complete.
During this phase of the opening, the public should access the building from Independence Boulevard instead of Goodwood Boulevard.
Temporary parking is available at the BREC Theatre, the BREC Garden Center, and soccer fields. Those needing wheelchair access may use the new sidewalk on the south side of the building and enter through the front door.
The address is still 7711 Goodwood Blvd., Baton Rouge LA 70806.
Mon-Thur 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Fri-Sat 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Sun 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
A grand opening and dedication is expected late in the spring upon final completion of the Plaza.
