BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Applications for the Louisiana Scholarship Program are now available for the 204-2015 school year.
Funded by the Louisiana Department of Education, the Louisiana Scholarship Program is part of the department’s plan “to ensure every student is on track to a college degree or a professional career.”
The Louisiana Scholarship Program provides low-income families with the opportunity to send their child to the school the parents believe is best.
According to the Department of Education, a student must be enrolled in a C, D, or F rated public school for the 2013-14 school year or entering kindergarten for the first time, to be eligible for the program. Students must be residents of Louisiana and meet eligibility requirements.
Regulations say that an applicant family’s income cannot exceed 250 percent of the federal poverty guidelines.
Continuing scholarship students only need to submit an application if they want to transfer to a new scholarship school.
136 schools are eligible to participate this year, and 114 schools are accepting new applications.
