BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — There are only few days left before the LSU Tigers take on the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Outback Bowl on New Year's Day in Tampa. Here in Baton Rouge bars are already preparing for the big crowds headed there way to watch the game.
Ryan Nizzo, General Manager at Walk-On's on Burbank, said, "We're expecting the typical rowdy fans. Last year we were a little disappointed with the trip to Atlanta. This year they have a bowl game that they haven't been to in many years ... we're looking forward to a little more exciting a little more adventurous type style of fan base that's coming in."
Nizzo says the business will open earlier on game day to accomdate the crowds. Plus, he plans on bringing in extra staff.
"Typically on a Wednesday morning you only have a handful of staff members that are accommodating the typical lunch crowd. We're treating it like any other game day weekend away game weekend SEC style away game," Nizzo said. "We're going to have full staff here at the bar. We're going to have full staff on the dining room floor as far as our servers with our bus staff and our kitchen staff as well."
Over at the Pelican House, owner Chris Juge said they're bringing in extra seating for fans.
"I think we'll fair pretty," Juge stated. "We've got people calling already to reserve couches and space for the game.
Juge said so far he's seen good crowds come out for big away games, and he's hoping Pelican House will see simliar business for the Outback Bowl.
"Theoretically, it should be great it's the last game of the season for LSU football. People get up here in this town for anything LSU especially football," Juge exclaimed.
Nizzo, said when the Tigers play in big bowl games, or away games it means a boost for business.
"It certainly does... especially around the holidays people have been inside with their families. They've had the activities going on inside their homes or gatherings. They are looking for something a little bit different at the tail end of the holiday season. So we expect a lot of them to come out in bunches," Nizzo said.
