BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — If you’ve thought about volunteering your time this holiday season, you’re not alone, that’s why some organizations are hoping you keep that spirit of giving through the whole year.
Savannah Chenevert has spent countless hours over the years volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul.
"I’ve been doing it for many years, I am not sure how many, but I enjoy it so I don't really count how many years," explained Chenevert.
She and hundreds of others will be giving up their time this holiday season as a way to give back, but with so many hoping to give back, space for volunteers has filled up fast.
"If we don't have a place for you at Christmas or right following Christmas, give us a call in the new year, make it a new year's resolution," said Michael Acaldo from St. Vincent de Paul.
That's why Chenevert and others say it's even more important to keep up the spirit of selfless giving all year long.
"Christmas is a time for giving, but so is every other time. Every day is a new day and we need people to give," said Chenevert.
If you're still looking for a way to make some body's holiday brighter by working with an organization like St. Vincent de Paul, but you just can't give of your time right now, don't worry, there are other ways you can get involved as well.
"There’s a long litany list of things people can do. They can go to work and they can say, 'I hear St. Vincent de Paul needs blankets, so why don't we do a collection drive here at our work place?' those are the things people can do," said Acaldo.
