BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — It was pomp and circumstance for graduates at Southern University Friday.
More than 500 students received their diplomas at fall commencement. But graduating is just one step toward the working
world. In a study published by the Washington post, only 27 percent of college graduates have jobs related to their major. But despite the declining job market, some graduates seemed to be pretty positive.
Joshua Albert, graduate in computer science said, "We're fine. Computer science--we've got a good background, we got a good education from a good school. We're going to make it. I'm about to get a job and do what i can to provide for me and my son
Fantashia Cooper, graduate in interdisciplinary studies, told us "I'm excited to be the first of my immediate family to get a college degree; my next step is to move to Atlanta, and with the connections that I do have, I'm not concerned." "I'm not worried at all," smiled Cooper.
Some students we talked to are also considering graduate school instead of going straight to work. We wish them all the best!
