Baton Rouge, LA (NBC33) — From dawn until dusk, Black Friday shoppers in Baton Rouge weren't giving up their spots in line. Some of those shoppers had been in line for 12 hours. "It's my first Black Friday in Baton Rouge," said one shopper.
But isn't Black Friday normally on Friday?
Shopper T.J. Price clarified by saying, "Its Black Thursday and not Black Friday, I mean, you eat turkey and you want to go lay down but you can't because [Thanksgiving is] Black Friday now.
That's right. Many stores are starting the party a day earlier, with some retailers opening as early as 6pm on Thanksgiving day. The date is not stopping deal hunters with whom we spoke. "Usually you have to get up really early in the morning, but now you can just go Thursday night and get it over with," said Copeland. Deleanor Palmer added, "Before friday, when everyone is sleeping, we're up."
Shoppers say, take note. You can't hit the door without a game plan.
"It's a treasure map. we have a map," said Palmer. "I'm going to get in front of
some people," laughed Sierra Copeland. "We're going to get a ticket," said shopper, April Bennett. "We heard they're giving out
tickets." Shopper, Gwendolyn Robertson, simply said "get it and get out!"
When it comes to their checklists, she said, "I only want one thing--a fifty inch television. Copeland wanted, "...the biggest TV I can find!" Bennett's young daughter, Genesis, wants "a phone."
But once those doors opened patient patrons said the wait, and the cold, were well worth it.
