BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — When you’re done navigating the bustling crowds at major retail chains on Black Friday, enjoy the slower pace of shopping at local small businesses the following Saturday.
The day after Black Friday was deemed Small Business Saturday by American Express in 2010 and has grown in popularity ever since. Even the federal government’s Small Business Association supports the initiative.
The Baton Rouge Area Chamber (BRAC) is encouraging area residents to participate this year.
“Small Business Saturday offers us a chance to show our support for the small businesses here in the Baton Rouge Area,” said Adam Knapp, President and CEO of BRAC. “BRAC hopes that shoppers will make a commitment to support local businesses as part of their holiday shopping and throughout the upcoming year.”
Small businesses around the country, and here locally, usually make the day special by offering incentives to shoppers such as discounts, free gift wrapping, food tastings, giveaways, and more. Many business also collaborate to enhance the experience and help shoppers get the most out their shopping day.
The official 2013 date is Saturday, Nov. 30.
