Alexandria, La (NBC) — An off duty firefighter died early Sunday morning when his own home caught on fire.
According to the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office, deputies and firefighters responded to the house fire and preformed CPR on 24-year-old Dustin Bordelon of Alexandria.
He was taken to the hospital, but died from his injuries.
His fellow firefighters say knowing him makes the loss so much worse.
"I worked with him for a long time, every shift,” said fireman Travis Trantham. “When you get to know somebody, it's really hard to deal with it, especially because he worked up here. He's a brother, you know. I can't say enough about how much he'll be missed."
Funeral arrangements for bordelon have not been announced.
