St. Mary Parish, La (NBC33) — St. Mary Parish detectives used surveillance on the Intracoastal Wateray to aid in the investigation of diesel fuel theft. The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office and Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office began a joint investigation into a tug boat captain taking diesel fuel from his employer and selling it at a dock in the Cypremort Point area.
Detectives watched as tug boat personnel pumped diesel fuel from the boat to an 18 wheeler tanker truck parked alongside the waterway.
When detectives approached, the boat workers discarded the hose and fled on the tug boat. Detectives detained the driver and passenger of the tanker truck, identified as Louis M. Dutreil and Eric S. Landry.
Detectives located the captain of the tug boat a short distance away from the site of the theft and also took him into custody. The boat captain is identified as Rod Pellegrin.
As the investigation unfolded, detectives learned that Pellegrin planned to sell 2,000 gallons of diesel fuel that night. The fuel has a value of $6,000.
Detectives also learned that Pellegrin profited from the sale stolen fuel on at least one other occasion.
Louis M. Dutreil Jr., 26, Marrero, LA, is charged with illegal possession of stolen things.
Eric S. Landry, 27, Lafite, LA, is charged with illegal possession of stolen things.
Rod Pellegrin, 48, Cut Off, LA, is charged with two counts of felony theft.
The investigation is ongoing.
