BATON ROUGE, LA — Curtis King, 23, was arrested today at his residence and charged with Second-Degree Murder and Second-Degree Cruelty to a Juvenile in the death of his 6-month-old son Aiden King on November 6.
On May 31, 2013, while in the care of Curtis King, the victim suffered second and third degree burns over 80 percentof his body after being placed in hot bath water. The victim, Aiden King, was transported to a children’s hospital burn unit in Galveston, Texas where he was treated for his extensive burns as well as other injuries discovered during his care at the hospital.
Detectives went to Galveston in order to continue their investigation, but were unable to determine probable cause for an arrest at the time. After the child’s recovery, Aiden was released back into the care of his parents, Daria Thomas and Curtis King. Baton Rouge Police Detectives were not informed that the child was being placed back at home.
On October 29, 2013, Baton Rouge Police were dispatched to the same address relative to the victim, Aiden King, being found unresponsive while again in the care of his father, Curtis King and another relative.
King stated that he had left the child unattended on an adult size bed while he was in another room separating marijuana to sell. King later fell asleep on the bed next to the child and stated that when woke up he found the child unresponsive. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he remained on life support until November 6, 2013, at which time he was released and declared dead.
Detectives determined that the child suffered injuries that were consistent with abuse and neglect which ultimately led to the death of Aiden King.
