BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Civil Rights activist and Iconic Reverend T.J. Jemison died Friday evening. He was 95-years-old. His son Ted Jemison Jr. tells NBC33 news his father passed away around 5:30 Friday at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital.
Jemison was the pastor of Mt. Zion First Baptist Church for many years.
Jemison was influential in the civil rights movement in Baton Rouge. He lead the bus boycott movement of 1953 in Baton Rouge. The movement would be the model later used by civil rights leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King to hold bus boycotts.
