SHREVEPORT, LA — Shreveport Police have arrested a man and woman in connection with a pair of armed robberies, a shooting and a kidnapping.
Just after 5:30 a.m. on November 13, Shreveport Police were called to the Days Inn motel located in the 4900 block of West Monkhouse Drive relative to a reported armed robbery of an individual. Upon police arrival at the scene, officers learned the victim, who was a registered guest at the hotel, was reportedly followed from the hotel’s parking lot, into his hotel room where he was allegedly robbed at gunpoint by an unknown man and woman. It was reported the female suspect, later identified as Mary Adler, 27, produced a handgun and demanded the victim’s wallet. Following the robbery, both Adler and her male accomplice, Gary Coleman, 37, fled the scene of the crime by way of metered transportation.
During the course of the robbery investigation, police were informed of a second robbery occurring in the 400 block of Olive Street, where a male victim was allegedly robbed and kidnapped while a second man was shot. During the ordeal, it was learned a black male and white female reportedly entered the apartment home of the victim through an opened window.
The duo reportedly robbed the victim at gunpoint and forced him from his apartment, ordering him to knock on the door of unsuspecting neighbor, 28-year-old Margarito Soberane’s apartment. The suspects reportedly forced the initial victim into Soberane’s apartment during which time a struggle between both victims and suspects ensued over the weapon. During the struggle, Soberanes suffered a gunshot wound to the upper body. Following the shooting both suspects fled the scene on foot. Soberanes was subsequently transported to University Medical Center for injuries considered to be non life-threatening.
Information gathered on scene at the Olive Street incident provided authorities a physical description of a black male and a white female suspect closely matching the description of Adler and Coleman.
As elements of the investigation began to unfold, authorities gathered information leading them to the Royal Inn Motel located in the 1900 block of North Market Street. Police received information that both Adler and Coleman were thought to be inside a room at the motel.
Shreveport Police Violent Crimes and Robbery investigators, along with Special Response Team members and Crisis negotiators arrived on scene at the motel to assistance in the matter. Following the nearly three hour ordeal, police took into custody, Mary Adler and Gary Coleman. Both suspects emerged from a second floor motel room, where authorities subsequently located a weapon believed to have been used in the commission of the shooting, kidnapping and robberies. Both suspects were transported to police headquarters where following interviews with detectives, each was booked into the Shreveport City Jail. Each now faces charges of Attempted Second-Degree Murder, Armed Robbery, Attempted Armed Robbery and Second-Degree Kidnapping.
