BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — UPDATE: Authorities have arrested the two scamming suspects, Dustin Grant and Faye Smith.
Grant was arrested on Friday, Nov. 15, by East Baton Rouge Sheriff Deputies after police received information on his whereabouts. Gant was apprehended after a short foot pursuit.
Gant suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital and released shortly after receiving treatment.
Smith was arrested on Sunday, Nov. 17, around 4:30 pm by the Baker Police Department, during a traffic stop.
Smith was later booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for charges of Felony Theft, Forgery and Monetary Instrument Abuse.
Baton Rouge Police Detectives are actively searching for Dustin Kenneth Gant, 31, and Faye Cooper Smith, 29, no current address, for scamming a 58 year old victim that was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. The suspects went to the victim’s home with the pretense of doing miscellaneous work approximately 4 months ago and apparently stole numerous checks.
The victim has suffered a loss in excess of 50,000.00 dollars.
It is believed that there are other victims in the surrounding Baton Rouge area.
Both suspects are wanted for Felony Theft, Forgery, and Monetary Instrument Abuse. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of these suspects or who believe that they have been scammed is urged to contact the Financial Crimes Division at 389-3871 or Crime Stoppers at 344-7867.
