ZACHARY, LA (NBC33) — When most high schoolers are enjoying their weekend off Raheem D. Allen takes time to write. He’s only 16-years-old, and so far he’s written two books. He’s the author of the “I am Rick” book series, and president of I am Rick L.L.C.
"The time to write is everywhere,” Allen said. “I keep a note pad with me just so when I have anything that sparks my ideas and I write it down."
Right now the Allen’s first two books, "I am Rick: Zane's Destruction," and "I am Rick: The Crystal of Life," [courtesy: I am Rick L.L.C.] are both published.
Allen says the series follows the story of a young man with special powers.
"I've always loved super hero's since I was a little kid, but I always wondered what would happen if a kid wrote it himself and it was about kids," Allen said.
Allen's second installment of the series was published this year.
Now he's working on the third installment all while trying to get good grades and have fun as a junior at Baton Rouge Magnet High School.
"Starting,” Allen described. “Starting is always the hardest part. You have to have something that sparks your idea. You have to have a motivation to keep you going. Just finishing too, starting and finishing are the hardest parts. "
He started writing as a young teen. His dad helped him through the process of figuring out how to get published. Now Allen’s advice for people who want to pursue writing is "write the books that you love if you want to be a writer."
He said he wouldn’t have been able to get to where he is today without believing in himself and his dream. Now he hopes to inspire others.
"My goal [with these books] is to show that anyone can follow their dreams at any time at any place no matter what age. It doesn't matter if it's books sports anything like anything you set your mind to you can do it," Allen said.
