BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — The Capital Area Transit System wants to hire a group to help them as they move forward with their system expansion. Wednesday the evaluation committee heard two proposals from companies looking to take on the job.
The company would work under C.A.T.S. CEO Bob Mirabito, and help give C.A.T.S. more resources to improve the system.
"We're adding ten routes. We're hiring 70 new operators," Mirabito, said, "We just need additional support in order to make this happen."
The two groups fighting for the job were MV Transportation Inc. based in Dallas, and Reliant Transportation Group based right here in Baton Rouge.
If Reliant Transportation Group is selected they say they'll work with partners like Parsons Brinckerhoff to give the bus system a hand with the transition.
"It's our job to make sure that the day the old system ends and the day after that when the new system begins that that is as seamless as it can be. Customers know exactly where they need to be how to use the system then we start growing ridership," Tim Reynolds, with Parsons Brinckerhoff, said.
MV Transportation Inc. would bring in a project manager/ chief operations officer with experience working with the transit system in New Orleans.
"You want a happy ridership we need to get some shelters," Bill Deville, proposed MV Transportation Inc. project manager/ coo, explained. "We need to get some information. We need to get bus stops people need to know where the buses are. There is a lot of basic stuff that needs to be done and it can be done. "
"We have a proven track record of helping communities improve the services they provide to their passengers the ridding public in every scenario and every situation where we are," Gary Coles, with MV Transportation Inc., said.
C.A.T.S. Officials said there are still a several steps in the process to chose the final group. They say the full board could receive a recommendation for which company to pick in the coming weeks.
