BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — The community is coming together to keep Istrouma High School open.
On October 29, the Recovery School District revealed plans to close both Istrouma and Glen Oaks Middle for at least a year.
Soon after that, Istrouma supporters started an online petition.
In the last 24 hours, more than 1,100 people signed it.
The RSD is planning to send all Istrouma students to Capitol High School next year.
Capitol High is being given over to the Friendship Academy Charter, which is based out of Washington D.C.
The RSD said it does plan to re-open Istrouma.
