The Whole Foods Market Arabella Station store will donate five percent of its September 22nd net sales to the Greater New Orleans Afterschool Partnership, an intermediary organization leveraging resources to programs that serve children and youth outside of school in New Orleans. The Afterschool Partnership maintains strong connections between community groups, schools, government agencies, and families. Serving as this critical link, they strive to fill any gaps between existing local youth systems and to create a strong infrastructure that effectively supports the children and youth of New Orleans. Formed by local food, beverage and hospitality professionals, BRES teaches young students about community involvement, cultural preservation, and leadership. In addition, BRES awards endowment funds to local accredited culinary colleges and institutions and annually honors an Epicure from the Greater Baton Rouge area who has dedicated their lives to serving our community. The Jefferson Dollars for Scholars (JDS), a non-profit that expands access to educational opportunities for Jefferson Parish Public School students through scholarships and academic support, will receive five percent of the Whole Foods Market Veterans store’s September 22nd net sales. Celebrating 17 years and honored as the 2010 National Dollars for Scholars Chapter of the Year, JDS has impacted 3,500 students, awarded $8 million in direct scholarship assistance (college and summer enrichment) and helped students earn $2.49 million in additional TOPS dollars through ACT test preparation classes.
