BATON ROUGE, LA — Southern University will be hosting a seminar focusing on AIDS and how we can raise awareness in the Capital City Area.
“Changing the Faces of AIDS” will take place today at 7:00 p.m. in the Royal Cotillion Ballroom on Southern’s camous.
Lecutres will be provided by guest speaker Emmy Award Winning radio host, author, and HIV/AIDS activist Rae Lewis-Thornton and keynote speaker Hydeia Broadbent, an international HIV/AIDS activist.
Broadbent has appeared on Katie, Oprah, 20/20, Good Morning America, Weekly with Ed Gordon, and A Conversation with Magic Johnson on Nickelodeon.
Broadbent is HIV positive and Thornton is diagnosed with AIDS. Both will be available for interviews.
HIV/AIDS is an especially important issue here in light of the per capita rate of new AIDS cases in Baton Rouge is among the highest in the country.
Also as World AIDS Day on December 1 approaches, the lecture will heighten awareness and knowledge about the deadly viruses.
