UNITED STATES — The Food and Drug Administration wants tighter restrictions on some of the most commonly prescribed narcotic painkillers.
The agency is proposing to reclassify several drugs that contain hydrocodone, including Vicodin.
The new classification would limit the number of refills patients can get before they have to follow up with their doctor.
The FDA is pushing for the change, saying it has "become increasingly concerned about the abuse and misuse" of the drugs.
