BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Two Garden District residents are both left shaken after being held up at gun point during evening walks Wednesday night.
"Two separate incidents, we're not sure if they're related or not, but the suspects presented hand guns and robbed them of their personal belongings," explained Cpl. L’Jean McKneely with the Baton Rouge Police Department.
Beaux Jones has lived in Baton Rouge's Garden District for several years now, he said he's never had any problems in his neck of the woods, but admits crime can be an issue.
"Having two back to back, it definitely is a little shocking, but I guess it kind of comes with the territory, you live in a city I guess, there's crime and we're all looking for ways to stamp it down," said Beaux Jones.
To those living in the upscale Garden District neighborhood those robberies are a little shocking, but more than anything it serves as a reminder to stay vigilant.
"Suspects who commit those type of crimes are opportunists, when they see an opportunity to commit a crime like that, the individual or victim is by themselves and they see it might be an easy crime," shared Cpl. McKneely.
"Serious crimes happen in this city, maybe the fact that they happened in the neighborhood tonight, people will take more efforts and realize crimes not just the product of one person making a bad decision, we've got a lot of systemic issues in the community that need help and maybe we can all come together and work on them," added Jones.
Investigators have not said whether the two armed robberies are related and they have not arrested anyone in connection with this crime yet.
