SHREVEPORT, LA (NBC33) — A popular puppy named "Braveheart" is slowly recovering from his injuries from neglect in Caddo Parish.
Braveheart was found emaciated and left to die in a storage unit about a month ago.
He may look better now - almost triple his weight from when he was found - but he's still sick; he's full of parasites, and the family taking care of him now says he may have gotten them at the Caddo Parish Animal Shelter.
Now, the shelter is under investigation.
"I don't blame anybody or any shelter. I understand that they tried to keep him in isolation; however, it could've been from the (pound) truck. It could've been from anywhere," stated owner Bo Spataro.
The shelter's latest inspection labeled it a model for other shelters, and nearly all standards were met under the Louisiana Animal Welfare Commission.
Braveheart's new owners say things are looking up for their rescue pet and they couldn't be happier with the steps the shelter is taking to improve animal welfare.
