BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — At Southern University, hundreds of students got a free check-up today.
Students got free health screenings, including HIV testing, glucose screenings, cholesterol screenings and breast exams.
The theme of this year's fair is "Knowing Your Numbers."
"I think this is a great idea, especially for freshmen, because most of us don't have cars to drive to the doctors. So, if we were concerned about our blood pressure or our weight, we could come here and get it checked," said freshman Taylor Semones.
"Our goal is to pick up any type of abnormalities that they may have early on, so that we can start interventions early to promote their wellness," stated Dr. Sandra Brown.
Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center and Lifeshare Blood Center teamed up with the University to make sure students' needs were addressed.
