THIBODAUX, LA (NBC33) — A 26-year-old man was arrested for forcible fondling after he allegedly reached up a woman’s skirt outside a nightclub.
“As far as we know this was a random act,” David Melancon, Thibodaux Police Department, said. “This is an incident where the suspect walked up behind an innocent person and committed this act to a person he had not communicated with at any point during the night.”
The incident happened at the corner of West 3rd shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13.
“Police officers were in the area and witnessed the altercation,” David Melancon, Thibodaux Police Department, said. “The officers witnessed the suspect place his hand up her skirt, grabbing her private area. She then pushed him away and was incredibly upset.”
The officers interjected and questioned the suspect, Tyler Gilbert of Houma.
“He was highly intoxicated,” Melancon said. “After he committed the assault, once he realized the victim was upset, he asked her, ‘what you’re not into it?’”
Gilbert was arrested and charged with Sexual Battery (forcible fondling). He was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center. His bond was set at $10,000.
If convicted, Gilbert could face a prison sentence up to 10 years without the benefit of probation or parole.
