Ferriday, LA — A crash involving three vehicles killed a husband and wife from Ferriday on October 9.
Troopers responded to the crash around 8:40 p.m., which occurred on US Hwy 84 at Ferriday Drive.
The crash involved a 2006 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Carolyn F. Smith, 77, a 1996 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Clifford E. Payne Jr., 43, of Vidalia, and a 1988 Lincoln Mark VII, driven by Robert Perry, 25, of Ridgecrest.
Smith failed to yield when entering Hwy 84, and it resulted in the eastbound Impala and the eastbound Lincoln colliding with her.
It is unknown if Smith was wearing her seatbelt. She was pronounced dead. Her only passenger (husband), identified as Welton Smith Jr., 80, was also pronounced dead. It is unknown if he was wearing his seatbelt.
Payne Jr. was not wearing his seatbelt and received moderate injuries. He was transported to Riverland Medical Center for treatment.
Perry was not wearing his seatbelt and received moderate injuries. His only passenger, Galen L. Jefferson, 31, of Ferriday, was not wearing his seatbelt and received moderate injuries. They were both transported to Natchez Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
