BAYOU CORNE,LA (NBC33) — A spokesman for the Assumption Parish Police Jury said Texas Brine owes the police jury big bucks for expenses the police jury has incurred this year related to sinkhole situation in Bayou Corne.
Kim Torres, a spokesperson for the Assumption Parish Police Jury, said the parish sent Texas Brine an invoice for $140,604.19 at the end of September. Torres explained the bill represents Texas Brine's outstanding balance with the police jury from the beginning of the year through September.
Sonny Cranch, a spokesman for Texas Brine Company, said the company will review the bill, and after that review the company will determine "respond appropriately." Cranch could not comment on when the bill would be paid. Cranch said the company did make other payments to the police jury in the past. Cranch said Texas Brine paid the Assumption Parish Police Jury $680,575 to date.
Meanwhile, the Bayou Corne remains under evacuation. Residents there have been out of their homes since August 2012 when a massive sinkhole formed near their homes.
