BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — After weeks of controversy , the Director of the Jewel J. Newman Center has been fired.
Councilwoman Chauna Banks Daniel fired Carl Slaughter earlier this week.
She accused him of negligence, and decided that he didn't have valid excuses for what went wrong at the center.
Part of the center is closed right now because a fire marshall found safety code violations.
Slaughter's lawyer says his pre-termination hearing last week wasn't taken seriously, and he plans to appeal to get his job back.
