BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Beer is now being served at the majority of BREC golf courses.
Alcohol was banned at all BREC parks in the past, but officials agreed serving drinks helps make some venues more attractive for functions, such as weddings and fundraisers.
In the past week, they have not seen a huge amount of alcohol sold, but they are optimistic things will look up after football season.
"What we’re seeing is for the first 10 days, were seeing decent numbers,” stated Cheryl Michelet with BREC. “It’s just related to the weather, how many people are playing golf and how many people want to have a beer, but I would say for 10 days, we’re seeing pretty good results already."
The Dumas Golf Course saw the least amount of sales - they sold about $50 worth of alcohol over the past week.
