BATON ROUGE, LA — Family, friends and the law enforcement community said goodbye to one of their own today.
Dustin Hamilton, 24, was laid to rest this afternoon.
The young deputy was killed in a car crash Friday night while on his way home from work.
Even though he'd only been with the department for two years, Sheriff Sid Gautreaux said that Deputy Hamilton made his mark.
"He always had a smile on his face. He was so eager to learn and he was an inspiration, and he should be an inspiration,” stated Gautrreaux. “It's a tough time - not only are we a team, but we're a family and any time you lose a family member, it's hard."
Sheriff Gautreaux says the men in the department are helping each other get through this difficult time.
Fellow law enforcement from other agencies came to pay their respects as well.
