OPELOUSAS, LA (NBC33) — A 47-year-old man is accused of inappropriately touching a juvenile. He was arrested and is being held without bond.
The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that Avery J. Payne of Opelousas was booked into parish prison after he allegedly admitted to touching the juvenile on more than one occasion.
“We received complaint that a student confided in her teacher regarding Avery Payne, a friend of the family, touching her inappropriately,” Captain Megan Vizena, St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, said. “Our juvenile detectives immediately conducted an investigation.”
Officials hope this case will serve as an example for parents.
“Sexual abuse is definitely a problem for our children. Recognizing it, responding appropriately and knowing the right resources can make all the difference for that child and their families. If you suspect that a juvenile is being abusing in any kind of way, we urge you to call our office,” Vizena added.
Payne is charged with Indecent Behavior with a Juvenile. He is being held at the St. Landry Parish Jail.
