BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Losing it in Louisiana contestants are still trekking to the finish line, but trainer Lake Johnson told me weight loss is not just what you do in the gym.
"The fact that it is 80% diet, 20% exercise," Lake said. "When you eat a bad meal, but you workout everyday, you're taking two steps back, one step forward."
Lake said she knows that exercise is important, but it's not the main ingredient to success. It's eating clean.
"Seventy-five percent of what you need to buy is on the walls. That's going to be your fresh produce, your chicken, turkey, fish, nuts, vegetables, anything like that, it's all going to be around the edges," Lake said. "The stuff in the middle is usually processed, boxed, and packaged foods."
Lake said eating clean means no sugar and limited salt.
"Your body is craving a quick, easy way to get energy again. So, what do you do? You reach for that donut that someone left in the office. You reach for those quick and easy things because you start to drag," Lake said.
It takes time.
"Ask yourself this, did one week of eating bad make you fat? No. Will one week of eating healthy make you thin? No," Lake said. "Four weeks of eating healthy will make a big difference. Eight weeks will make a huge difference."
However, if you stick with it, you can do it.
"Take it one meal at a time. Skip over that bad meal. Go for your healthy meal. Then feel that high it's going to give you, and do it again," Lake said. "Eventually, it will become a habit, and you'll be one of those people you used to be jealous of."
