NBC NATIONAL NEWS — Even their most loyal customers can't escape the frustration of those dreaded airline fees.
Frequent flyers still pay processing, quick ticketing and even boarding pass fees when reward points are used.
"Once you add up all these fees for using those frequent flyer miles, sometimes you might as well just buy the ticket outright." says Brian Kelly, founder of ThePointsGuy.com.
The list of fees can be very expensive and frustrating.
That frustration is likely to grow heading into the holiday season.
Gabe Saglie, Senior Editor at TravelZoo, says air travelers seem to have very little recourse.
"These fees have become major moneymakers. I think the rule of thumb is: These fees aren't going away," says Saglie.
Not going away, but Kelly says maybe you can get them removed or reduced.
"I always recommend calling and simply asking them to waive the fee. You'd be surprised how often that can work. It never hurts to ask" suggests Kelly.
