NEW ORLEANS, LA (NBC33) — Bond has been set at $350,000 for a mother accused of causing an injury that killed her 2-year-old daughter.
The New Orleans Police Department arrested Michelle Harris, 28, for Second-Degree Murder on Wednesday, Sept. 25. The charge was issued after an autopsy revealed that her child, Zion Harris, died from internal injuries that were consistent with physical abuse.
Investigators learned that Harris had struck her daughter at some point on Tuesday, Sept. 24. Later that day, the child was found unresponsive in their home located in the 1400 block of Tulane Ave. She was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
The autopsy showed that Zion had a lacerated liver, which is consistent with being punched or kicked in the stomach.
Harris is currently being held in the Orleans Parish Prison.
