The jobless rate has soared to an all-time high across the nation. The Labor Department today reported over 6 million people are now receiving unemployment benefits. But the numbers are much lower here in the Bayou State.
Louisiana’s unemployment rate of 5.9% compares to over 7.2% nationally. Curt Eysink with the Louisiana Workforce Commission says, “Our rate is higher than last year but we’re still bucking the trend economy, still doing better than the rest of the country, we have still had an increase in jobs.” Eysink says on average about 800 claims are filed each day.
