BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — People in Baton Rouge found ways to tackle their diabetes today in a unique way.
LA Care held its first ever Diabetes Boot Camp today. The organization held classes that focused on healthy eating, time management, lifestyle and exercise.
With nearly 11 percent of Louisianans having diabetes, this event was in high demand by locals. Those who attended gave a huge thanks to the organizers, saying that this information will save lives.
“I learned that I can control my diabetes by doing what the doctor says and by eating right and exercising,” stated Andrea Galmon.
"We know that it’s something that needs to be addressed,” said Dr. Yolanda Spooner with LA Care. “What we wanted to do is to make sure we know people know how to manage their diabetes."
The organization ended the day with a gift bag giveaway and some line dancing to get attendees up and moving.
