SHREVEPORT, LA (KMSS) — A child was injured overnight when a stray bullet ripped through her legs while she slept in her home. It happened just before midnight on Monday.
According to the Shreveport Police Department, officers were dispatched to a home on the 2000 block of Murray Street on reports of a shooting. When they arrived at the scene, police discovered a wounded 8-year-old girl.
Emergency crews responded and took the child to a local hospital with serious injuries to her legs, but she is expected to make a full recovery.
Authorities say the family that lived in the home was asleep when a bullet entered the house and hit the sleeping girl. No other members of the household reported any injuries.
Law enforcement officials believe an unidentified man fired multiple rounds from what was described as a large caliber gun in the direction of the home. He then ran from the area on foot.
