NATCHEZ, Miss. — Casting directors are searching for performers and extras of all ethnicities and ages to audition for an upcoming drama about the life of legendary singer James Brown.
Universal Pictures announces the film production of Get On Up to take place in Natchez and Jackson early this November. The movie will chronicle Brown's meteoric rise in the music industry between the 1930s and the 1980s, to be ultimately known by his fans as "The Godfather of Soul."
Actors, musicians and extras are needed to audition. The casting call will take place at the Natchez Old City Auditorium (207 Jefferson Street in Natchez) on Saturday, September 21, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Casting directors ask that you bring a current, non-returnable photo to the audition. Musical skills are welcome but not required.
Tate Taylor will direct Get On Up as his follow-up to the four-time Academy Award®-nominated blockbuster The Help. Chadwick Boseman, seen in the movie 42 about the life of Jackie Robinson, will play James Brown in Get On Up. The film will give a fearless look inside the music, moves and moods of Brown, taking audiences on the journey from his impoverished childhood to his evolution into one of the most influential figures of the 20th century.
Academy Award® winner Brian Grazer (A Beautiful Mind, 8 Mile) and Erica Huggins (Flightplan) produce for Imagine Entertainment, with Mick Jagger and Victoria Pearman (Shine a Light) producing under their Jagged Films banner. Under his Wyolah Films label, Taylor also serves as a producer on Get on Up, while Wyolah’s John Norris executive produces alongside Trish Hofmann and Peter Afterman.
If you are unable to attend the open call, you may email your current photo, along with name, contact information (phone number and E-mail), height, weight and availability to GetOnUpExtras@gmail.com .
